Why do We Fool Ourselves?

Fool ourselves I don’t know why we deliberately fool ourselves by not facing our ghosts squarely.

You must have observed this too, that something might be bothering you, and you will keep on ignoring it until either you are forced to do something about it or you learn to live with it.

We would actually spend more time and energy in avoiding our problems, rather than acknowledging and fixing them (You can’t fix something you don’t acknowledge first).

Let say you are overweight. You know what you should do, right? But you wont actually do it. Then one day, lets say you have a heart attack and then you are forced to do something about it. Picture clear?

Not only that but we would actually try to out-smart our better selves by giving ourselves stupid excuses.

The result is that we reap what we sow. Garbage-in, Garbage-out.

Read this:

A young woman wasn’t feeling well, and asked one of her colleagues to recommend a physician.

"I know a great one in the city, but he is very expensive. $500 for the first visit, and then $100 for each subsequent visit."

The woman went to the doctor’s office and, trying to save a little money, cheerily announced. "I’m back!"

Not fooled for a second, the doctor quickly examined her and said, "Very good, just continue the treatment I prescribed on your last visit."

So it’s better to pay the $500 right away. :)

    Sunny,

As usual you hit the nail straight on it’s head. The post is just RIGHT. If we don’t acknowledge what we need to work on and pretend it’s not there, we’ll never make the changes or we’ll wait until we’re forced to change. It reminds me of the ostrich sticking it’s head the sand and thinking he’s hiding from trouble:~)

I also liked the story of the doctor! It made me smile:~)

p.s. I like the look of your site!!

    Sunny,
Its true we have become stubborn in the head and the heart when it comes to doing things that are outside our comfort zone..hence we avoid doing them till nature or god strikes with something like a heart attack.

  3. Hi Sunny,
This post reminds me of the saying, “Common sense is not common.”
    Thanks for sharing.
