The Benefits of Meditation

The benefits of meditationSo you have started thinking about meditating and you want to know what are the benefits of meditation.

You want to take the leap and see what’s on the other side of this ordinary world that you are so accustomed to.

You want to know what is behind the veil? Where will meditation take you? What will you experience specifically?

You might be expecting a lot, or you might be expecting too little from the practice of meditation.

We need to balance the things out and see what exactly meditation will give you at your current level of expertise in it.

I assume you to be a beginner’s level. as this article is geared towards the newcomers to meditation, anyway. So please understand that you can’t expect to be an Olympic champion if you are just starting to learn how to swim. Can you? :)

I’m not trying to dampen your spirits, but I am one person who likes to keep it real and grounded. So let’s be realistic here.

Forget about ESP (Extrasensory Perception), Out Of Body Experiences, Meetings with Guides and Angels, Tele or Audio Clairvoyance, Telepathy, Mind Control, Astral Traveling, Levitation, Mind Reading, having a cup of coffee with Einstein or anything of the sort, that you might have in your mind. :)

Did I say, "Forget it?" Well, don’t forget it, just put these expectations aside for the time being. I can say without any doubt, there is a strong possibility that you can develop such skills too, but for the starters, there are other benefits that any newcomer to meditation can get out of meditation easily.

You see, we don’t get a doctorate when we are in third grade. Do we? :) But then again, it also doesn’t mean that we won’t ever get it. A time and season for everything, as they say.

When you start the practice of meditation, the benefit you are most likely to get is, frustration. Yes, you read it right. Frustration.

Why?

Because you will find it difficult to tame the beast—your mind.

As it turns out, your mind happens to be one of the most difficult things to discipline. It’s a wild beast. I didn’t create it so don’t ask me why is it so. That is, just how it is, and if you don’t believe me, here is how you can know for yourself.

Just think of an apple, only an apple, only an apple, I said, ONLY AN APPLE, and nothing else for just 3 minutes straight. No other thoughts at all.

Go ahead. I’ll wait for 3 minutes. Here is a 3 minutes pause. :)

Back? Okay, you know what I mean now? You can’t really think of just an apple for 3 minutes straight, without any other thought entering in your mind. Now that is the kind of control you have over your mind.

You start getting the benefits out of meditation when you are able to meditate, and not while you are trying to meditate, and yet you can’t meditate unless you try.

That’s the dilemma. Keep it in your mind, meditate on it, because that is exactly why 99% of the newcomers to meditation get discouraged, as they do not experience life alerting benefits out of it right after their first session.

Now the good news. After some practice, when you gain a little control over your mind, you will start getting profound benefits out of your meditation, depending on which meditation technique you have been practicing and for what purpose.

It is important that you unmask your own underlying motives to meditate. What do you want to get out of it?

The practice of meditation is like gaining access to a gold mine of treasures. It all depends on you, what you bring back home.

You enter the superconscious level of your mind-field where all knowledge is available to you. Now you tell me, what you want to experience?

Innumerable individuals like you and me benefited from the practice of meditation over the years. Extraordinary cases of achievement in this field have been recorded.

Here are some of the benefits of meditation for beginners:

  • Getting out of destructive behavioral patterns like depression, low self esteem etc.
  • Self healing
  • Getting rid of addictions
  • Enhancing the quality of life
  • Manifesting
  • Spiritual healing
  • Attracting mental, emotional and financial success
  • Clearing blocked emotional channels
  • Cultivating a profound sense of inner peace
  • Getting in touch with guides, angels and other astral beings
  • Creative problem solving
  • Developing the sixth sense, intuition
  • Opening spiritual channels for higher knowledge
  • Creating master pieces in art, music and literature etc.
  • Knowing and realizing the life-purpose
  • Realizing God, The Higher Self

On a personal note, if you are just starting out, I’ll suggest that you should focus on the following benefits, without which you won’t be able to travel very far in this exciting wonderland.

Get acquainted with your higher self. Create a friendly attitude towards it, you will be pleasantly surprised at the inner peace that you will get out of this relationship.

Know your mind-field and energy-body. Get to know your chakras (energy-centers), your aura (energy-field) and what purpose they serve in your life. You are much more than what you think you are.

Clear you emotional blockages. Overtime we all create these blockages in ourselves due to repressed emotions, bad experiences in our childhood and even in adult life. We live without really knowing why we behave the way we do.

We don’t even realize that there is a lot of emotional junk inside us, blocking our progress towards our higher goals. Meditation makes it possible for us to clean that kind of emotional debris.

Improve your immune system with the help of meditation so your body may fight the negative energy of disease more strongly.

Redefine yourself by believing in what makes you strong rather than what weakens you.

Extend your idea of who you are.

Create a sense of purpose in your life. Find your life purpose.

Live your life in harmony with the nature around you, and use the enormous power of nature to strengthen your spirit, by being in tune with it.

There are specific meditations just for the purpose of increasing your auric energy by tuning in to the energy of nature surrounding you.

Develop a feeling of non-judgmental love in your Self for all creation. You will feel elated when you will feel that kind of energy being radiated from your heart, outward in the universe.

In the end I would like to mention clearly, that think of meditation as a tool, a medium and not as a destination in itself.

Meditation is like a car, a vehicle that will help you travel. It is not the destination or the path in any case. Sure it opens many doors in your consciousness but that’s about it.

It certainly is not The Reality. It just helps you experience The Reality in a profound way, which you do not get to experience in your day to day lives because you are too busily distracted most of the time.

Great post Sunny. I have to say I didn’t feel frustrated when I first tried meditation, I just felt peace and happiness, but I do understand where you are coming from.

    Keep up the good work!

    Cheers,
    Glen
