Million Acts of Kindness
Dr. Wayne Dyer, in an interview he gave to Ray Hemachandra, back in November 2005 said, “When I look at the news and all the things that are hostile out there, I remind myself that for every act of evil in the world, there are a million acts of kindness.”
That line of Dr. Wayne Dyer slid its way into my heart and mind. After that, every time I felt, that the news and acts of violence and injustice in the world are sucking away my energy, I recalled that line and deliberately chose to see the million acts of kindness people are doing around me.
They usually go unnoticed—the million acts of kindness. Media doesn’t highlight them, for they are hardly newsworthy, and we don’t notice them because we have somehow trained our minds to follow the camera—blindly.
It is no wonder then, that our minds look for the negativity around us more than the positivity, and we ignore the acts of kindness that are happening around us, all the time.
But then someone comes along and do something wonderful, and the energy of such an act of kindness grips our heart, and we are forced to look at it. Raam Dev is one of those people.
He is an idealist. I believe he is, because only an idealist can label himself as, “a frugal world traveling nomad”. Only an idealist can feel the need to change our collective behaviors, for the greater good of mankind, and only an idealist can come up with a brilliant and valuable 160 page e-book, within days, by distilling the wisdom of over 40 personal development bloggers.
I am not one of the contributors to Raam’s book, titled aptly, “Small Ways to Make a Big Difference”, but I definitely am the kind of guy who, when sees some act of kindness, makes sure that he spreads the word around.
This free e-book is one act of kindness you need to check out for yourself, for it may just inspire you to do an act of kindness too, and that I believe, is what we need the most.

SHARING IS CARING

Hey Abubakar
I will be very interested to read your e-book, this is a subject I am interested in and have written a small post about how people seem to thrive on bad news. I like what you have said about for every bad news story there are a 100 good ones. Its a great way to put things in balance.
Just being an observer on TV to the 911 tradgety made me feel sad, but as you say the media focus mainly on bad news stories and it would be great to see more positive media. It is great you are taking the time to spread the good news. Thank you for sharing this story.
Thank you for your encouraging comment. It's our mutual responsibility that we spread the good word around as much as we can and you are doing the same through your own blog.
Abubakar,
Yep, I have seen this book and it is good info. Random act of kindness is always great when no one knows what you have done except yourself. I took one "art of living" class, where we were asked to do one random act of kindness and idea has stuck.
It's a good idea so it should stuck.
Keep up the good work Preeti.
Hi Abubakar, thank you so much for spreading the word about the ebook, the help with the 3d graphic, and for the introduction!
I think you're right about there not being enough light shed on the all the "good" that is being done in the world. Too much of the news is about all the bad that's happening. I think it comes down to a desire for control by those with more money and influence: Fear is a much better method of controlling people.
But we can win the battle by individually deciding not to allow fear to control us and to instead each become a driving force for good and positivity; each of us a pillar for supporting a roof of good and sheltering all of us from the rains of negativity.
I see you doing exactly that here on this blog. Thank you!
You are very welcome Raam and thank you for your kind words.
Abubakar I think I am going to enjoy the e-book. I am excited about reading it. There is so much kindness in the world and when you give people a chance to shine they do.
Yes Marion, when people are given a chance and encouragement they do shine.
I hope you enjoy the e-book, it has wonderful nuggets of wisdom sprinkled all over.
