Knowing Your Energy Centers (Chakras)
Before I post an article about the color visualization technique to balance your chakras, I think it will be appropriate to present an introduction of the chakras first. So in this article I will talk about your energy centers (chakras) briefly.
Chakras are the energy centers that exist along your spinal cord, within your auric field. They are also called vortices of light and each chakra has a specific function and color assigned to it. The different colors were assigned to chakras based on the frequency at which they vibrate. Each chakra also relates to a specific set of organs in the body, as well as emotions and psyche.
Energy healers have trained themselves to see the auric field (aura) and can distinctly notice and heal the imbalances of your energy body. Physical and psychological imbalances usually show up in a person’s energy field long before their symptoms are noticeable in the physical realm. The effects of your thoughts can also be seen on your energy body. Dr. Valery Hunt researched this field quite intensively and wrote a very inspiring and informative book, Infinite Mind”, on this topic.
The seven major chakras are:
1. Root Chakra – Color Red
It is located at the base of your spine, between the legs. It relates to your sense of being grounded to your body, kinesthetic feelings, survival, self esteem, social order, security, familial beliefs, superstitions, loyalty, physical pleasure or pain, touch and movement. Its functions are related to the lower digestive organs, spinal column, kidneys, legs, feet, rectum, immune system and some of the sexual organs. It’s all about your material world lessons and basic needs.
2. Sacral Chakra – Color Orange
It is located just above the root chakra and ranges from lower abdomen to the navel. The sacral chakra is about your emotional connections. It relates to creativity, manifestation. honoring relationships, sexual urges and creativity along with art, music, story-telling, duality, magnetism, controlling patterns, joy, anger and fear. Sacral Chakra is where you connect to friendships and your relationship with your partner. Physically its effects are seen on sexual organs, stomach, upper intestines, liver, gallbladder, kidney, pancreas, adrenal glands, spleen and middle spine.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra – Color Yellow
The location of this chakra is your solar plexus, between your navel and lower chest.. It is all about your mental understanding of emotional life and acceptance of your place in the life. It’s about your ego, self love, self esteem, fear of rejection, oversensitivity to criticism, self-image, fears and indecisiveness. Physically it relates to upper abdomen, umbilicus to rib cage, liver, gallbladder, middle spine, spleen, kidney, adrenals, upper portion of the small intestine and other digestive organs. It is so because this is where where you digest and break down the experiences of day to day life. It is where you process your relationship to yourself, and where you make your core decisions about life.
4. Heart chakra _ Color Green and Rose Pink
The location is your upper chest, slightly to the right of your physical heart. Heart chakra is your human love center. It relates to your most powerful emotions beyond the basic ones. It’s all about emotional empowerment , forgiveness, unconditional love, letting go, trust and compassion. Physically it governs the heart, circulatory system, blood, lungs, rib cage, diaphragm, thymus, breasts, esophagus, shoulders, arms and hands. This is the chakra that integrates your physical and spiritual selves acting as a bridge.
5. Throat chakra – Color Sky Blue
Location of throat chakra is your throat. It relates to your thyroid gland. Its emotional and energetic link is with your voice and your ability to express yourself with spoken and written word, confession, and truthfulness. Physically it relates to throat, thyroid, trachea, neck vertebrae, mouth, teeth, gums, esophagus and parathyroid. It’s basic emotional connection is with your ability to take responsibility for your actions.
6. Third eye chakra – Color Violet
It is located on your forehead, directly over the pineal gland, between the eye brows. It is directly linked to your vision, mental faculties, insight, intuition and spiritual powers. Your ability to separate reality from fantasy or delusions comes into effect through the this chakra. You learn the art of detachment and receive visual images through your third eye chakra. It affects your sense of self discipline, judgment, evaluation, emotional intelligence and concept of reality. Physically it governs your brain, neurological system, eyes, ears, nose, pituitary and pineal glands.
7. Crown chakra – Color White, or Golden
The crown chakra is located on the top of your head, just where a baby’s soft spot would be. It is your connection to the Source and your Higher Self. It is through this chakra that the Life force is dispersed from the universe into the lower chakras. It is all about intuitive knowing, connection to one’s spirituality and blending of the duality into unity. This chakra is directly linked to your spirituality and the art of living in the now.
More about chakras
The colors of a chakra may vary with your health, awareness, and character. Their location may also vary as they might be dislocated. Chakras are sensitive to energy work and to healing “ingredients” like essential oils, crystals, sound healing, energy work and homeopathic remedies.
Your thoughts directly effect your auric body and the changes are usually seen immediately. If you are thinking thoughts of love, anyone who can read an aura will be able to tell that you are thinking loving thoughts.
The lower chakras (root, sacral and solar plexus) correspond to your physical body and basic needs while the upper chakras (throat, brow, and crown) correspond to higher mental and spiritual faculties like vision, foresight, intuition, your connection with spirituality and divinity. The heart chakra is the connecting link between the upper and lower realms of your being.
In the next part of this series on chakra meditation I will write about the exact techniques and meditations that you can use to balance your energy bodies, so keep tuned in.
SHARING IS CARING

Sunny,
This is such a coincidence. I was just reading up on chakra meditation and your post spells out the chakras so well. I love your use of colours.
Interestingly, in foot reflexology (which I’m assuming originated from China) the practitioners can also feel your energy fields in your whole body, just in the feet alone. I’m not sure, but would you say that there are also chakras in the feet?
I have heard a little bit about chakras from Yoga classes, but this is a lot more detail information. Thank you for sharing , this help me understand so much more.
